Our October meeting is a special members' evening when the Show cups and other awards are presented. Twenty one people received prizes ranging from cups, certificates and medals to prize money for winning first in class. Most noteworthy winners -
Arthur Higginbottom won the Ernest Grand Cup for the highest number of points (gentlemen), the Norfolk and Norwich Horticultural Society Medal and the Sinclair Smith Cup for the best horticultural exhibit.
Mary Muff was awarded the Taylor Cup for the highest number of points (lady), the Supreme Vase Voucher and the Certificate for best home produce.
Anne Barnes won the Peter Beales Award for the best rose while Barbara Knowles won the Basil Atkins Cup for vegetables and the Banksian Medal for most points in all horticultural classes.
Neil Rout was awarded the Bert Dwyer Cup for the best dahlias and Rita Rout held the Tusting Cup for home produce. Pamela Ward won the Floral Decoration Cup and George Richards shared the Hayward Cup with Arthur Higginbottom.
The children's cups were won by Eleanor and Oliver Philcox.
After the ceremony we all enjoyed refreshments and then were entertained by the Cringleford Singers whose cheerful music was appreciated by everyone. The choir sang a mixture of negro spirituals, folk and popular songs, interspersed with jazz by the musicians and an amusing solo from the choir mistress. We rounded up the evening by joining in a selection of songs from the shows.
Next meeting is on the 11th November when Alan Barson will talk to us about Lawn Care. Or moss care in my case!
7.30pm at Cringleford Church Hall.
