Before I get into writing the match report, which is very short anyway, as my paper got soaking wet. I would like to say how well the lads have done this season. The record reads, they have played 36 games, won 31, lost 4, and drawn 1. The 4 games lost, against Wymondham (twice) were so close it could have gone either way, and against Watton (twice) who plenty of people believe are one of the best sides in Norfolk, and we beat them once and drew with them on another occasion this season. The players have been a credit to themselves, their families, the supporters and Cringleford FC.
Onto the report Cringleford started solidly with the defence consisting of Mister Lister, Jo Dee, and Reece (Rory Delap) Slater. With Connor (Man of the Match) Milligan between the posts, Watton were having a very hard time getting past that lot, Ash the tiger was waiting to pick off the run through from any Watton player and the mercurial talent that is Bryn Mullen was giving everything he had to finish the season on a high, Leo was still threatening but the 2 Watton markers were giving him no space or time with the ball. Cringleford battled away for 40 minutes and with the score 1-0 to Watton, me and Martin both thought we could get this in the last quarter, then Watton really turned up the heat and with both Tom and Reece having to come off with injuries. Watton rampaged through the Cringleford defence consisting solely of Jacob Sharred. Cringleford did not give up and with Alex Hardy coming on for Leo, still Cringleford pushed forward for goals. The final score does not reflect the balance of play. But if a lesson can be learned from this defeat by the deserved League champions, it must be the lack of discipline in the last 20 minutes hurt Cringleford badly.
Well done to Rob/Paul and his Watton boys finishing as League champions and good luck to both them and Weeting in the league final this weekend.
With the 2009/10 season nearly over, apart from 2 fixtures against Brooke. Cringleford U10’s have finished runners up in the South Norfolk League and have won the Christian Youth League U10 division.
On Sunday we all went away with wet clothes and feeling a little low, but remember this, Watton have won every game they have played this season, except 2, both those games were against Cringleford U10’s.
Not bad for a village team south of Norwich.
